What Is Health and Wellbeing?
Health and wellbeing is not just not having the flu or some other ailment. It is about having our lives in a healthy balance and includes:
- Mental Health
- Emotional Health
- Cardiovascular and Respiratory Fitness
- Physical Strength to do what you need to do
- Social wellbeing
- Spiritual Health
Sometimes getting “Balance” is not easy !!!
Getting Balance in your body
For your body to be “healthy” it needs :-
- Heart and Lung Fitness
- Strength so you can do all the activities you need to do safely and easily
- Flexibility so you can move- which comes form – good muscle length and joints which move freely
- Co-ordination- so you change direction easily and not fall over
- Balance – so you can control your body weight in lots of positions, so you don’t fall
- A healthy diet
- Good rest and sleep at night
What are the benefits of exercise?
1. Your body gets stronger and stays stronger.
2. Your bones can get stronger.
3. You joints can move more freely, and work better.
4. Your heart and lungs and arteries can work more effectively.
5. Your brain can think more clearly.
6. You can deal with stress more effectively.
7. You feel a sense of accomplishment,
8. Exercise can help with depression and sleep,
9. Exercise can help with cancer treatments and prevention of cancer.
10. Exercise is a great social activity and makes you feel happier.
What is stress? How bad is it?
What are the signs of chronic stress?
- Increased heart rate and breathing when not exercising
- Dry mouth and lack of saliva
- Difficulty sleeping
- Waking up between 2-4 am on a regular basis
- Poor appetite and digestive issues
- Pre-diabetes – high blood sugar levels
- Poor immune system- susceptible to colds and viruses
- Emotional issues
- Anger outburst
- Inability to concentrate and think clearly
